SUMMARY:Troubled Waters: Voices from Bath
DESCRIPTION:Troubled Water: Voices from Bath uses fine photography\, audio interviews and film to explore the personal and environmental issues of Dominion’s proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline in Bath County\, VA. \nWhere: IX Art Park\, 963 2nd St SE\, Charlottesville\, VA 22902 \nWhen: Photo Exhibit October 18 – 30\, Film Presentation Event Friday\, October 28\, 7:00-9:00 pm \nSeeking to illuminate how the proposed Atlantic Coast natural gas pipeline affects those living closest to it\, professional photographer Lee Brauer\, a recent Bath County resident\, partnered with Barbara Adams\, a member of Interfaith Climate Justice in Richmond\, VA\, and Julian McBain and Sam Wright\, student environmental activists at Virginia Commonwealth University\, to create Troubled Water: Voices from Bath. \nWhile proponents insist these projects are necessary and universally beneficial\, multiple studies have refuted this. Bath County residents overwhelmingly are united against the ACP and have joined others in the state sharing the same perspective. Troubled Water: Voices from Bath uses a multi-media approach – exquisite photos\, audio stories and a moving documentary-style video – to share stories of Bath residents\, their history and relationship with the land and dreams for it. This creative venture highlights those with a deep understanding of the county’s unique environment – karst mountain topography and hydrology; scenic mountain roads\, bridges and forests threatened by the need to transport large\, heavy equipment\, and unparalleled pristine springs\, streams and rivers – of the Bath County region and the heartland of Virginia. \nContact: Barbara Adams ~ barb5100@comcast.net ~  804-484-2773

SUMMARY:Disobedience Movie and *Break Free* Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join the Piedmont Group of the Sierra Club\, Transition Charlottesville and 350 Central Virginia to watch great film and be inspired by a global wave of regular people everywhere resisting fossil fuels. \nIn a way\, this film is a follow-up to Disruption which played a big role in mobilizing people for the People’s Climate March in 2014 — so you know it will have an impact. As the climate crisis builds\, “Disobedience” challenges us to ask ourselves: “What kinds of action are called for? And what can I do?” \nAttend the Disobedience watch party and connect with local members of the movement and find out more about plans for participating in the “Keep it in the Ground” demonstration in DC.

SUMMARY:Coal Ash Stories
DESCRIPTION:Over the past few months there has been fierce resistance across Virginia to Dominion’s coal ash disposal plans. Thousands called on the Department of Environmental Quality to revoke lax permits that allow Dominion to dump toxic wastewater into the James River\, with dozens of citizens risking arrest to protect our waters. But this fight is only beginning. In the coming weeks\, Dominion will apply for additional permits to leave its remaining coal ash waste in unlined pits that will leach heavy metals into our groundwater for years to come\, including at its Bremo Bluff Power Station south of Charlottesville. \nJoin CCAN\, the Virginia Student Environmental Coalition\, Appalachian Voices\, and more on Wednesday April 20\, 2016\, at the Jefferson Madison Central Library\, 201 E. Market St.\, Charlottesville\, for a film screening\, discussion\, and planning for next steps. \n“Coal Ash Stories” are four short films that paint a picture of what life looks like in communities threatened by toxic coal ash contamination across the country. Independent journalist Rhiannon Fionn will be at the screening as part of her nationwide tour to chronicle coal ash impacts for an upcoming documentary. Discussion following the film will focus on next steps to protect local drinking water and our treasured James River from Dominion’s toxic pollution. \nRSVP here for the screening of “Coal Ash Stories” next Wednesday in Charlottesville at the Jefferson-Madison Library at 7pm!
