DESCRIPTION:Landowners Bill and Lynn Limpert invite you to join us for an interfaith ceremony on Miracle Ridge in Bath County\, Virginia. We will honor Ona\, a 300-year-old Sugar Maple tree\, in the path of the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline and host the ceremony at the base of her tree. With a vision for her safety\, protection\, and long-life\, and a commitment to appreciate and love Ona\, we ask the forest of Miracle Ridge to help us\, in turn\, envision and create a world beyond waste\, pollution\, and conflict war. \nAt this ceremony\, we will lay a sculpture carved from the wood of a White Oak tree recently felled by pipeline construction activity — a fate that the ACP is planning to bring to ONA. The sculpture will be a symbol of our dependence on the forest for air\, warmth\, shelter\, and food and will be placed to protect Ona from the current threat of the fossil fuels industry.There will be music\, affirmation\, prayer\, and ceremony on this date at this time near Ona. \nHere are the details:\nWHAT: “Ona Commemoration Celebration” – a celebration of 300-year-old sugar maple tree “Ona” that lies in the path of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline.\nWHEN: Friday\, October 19th\, 2018. Ceremony at 12 noon (please arrive by 11 AM to walk to Ona) including prayer and speakers from across Virginia.\nWHERE: At the base of Ona tree on “Miracle Ridge.” Please RSVP for directions and more information and you will receive an email from Jamshid Bakhtiari\, jamshid@chesapeakeclimate.org.\nWHO: Virginians directly affected by the harmful Atlantic Coast Pipeline\, joined by dozens of others including residents\, students\, faith and social justice leaders\, and climate activists. \nCamping information: \nVisitors are invited but not required to camp nearby overnight before or after the ceremony. Camping is available at Hidden Valley Recreation Area\, a ½ hour away\, and Douthat State Park\, about an hour away. At the briefing\, can ask questions\, but not comment. \nBring a small amount of water from a waterway you love. \nWe can stop the proposed 54\,000 + horse power ACP Compressor Station that would endanger and diminish the health and land values of all residents of Buckingham County and destroy the lives of the historic African American community of Union Hill. \nThe next challenge is to deny the air permit for the compressor station. Without the compressor station\, the ACP\, a robbery of and threat to all Virginians\, cannot be built. \nThis compressor station\, a giant one\, even by industry standards would bring loud constant noise and release toxic poisons into Buckingham’s air and water. The health of children is particularly vulnerable to the methane\, formaldehyde\, arsenic\, benzene\, xylene and other compounds the compressor will regularly release. The compressor station would create a fire and explosion hazard completely beyond the capacity of distant volunteer firefighters. Join us as we lift our spirits\, inform our minds\, and choose our right actions. SUMMARY:Candlelight Vigil: McAuliffe\, See the Light. Stop the Pipelines
DESCRIPTION:Now that the hard-fought election is over\, it’s time to get back to work and stop the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley Pipelines once and for all. \nWe need to show Governor McAuliffe — and recently elected Ralph Northam — that we’re not going to back down. We need to make them see the light. \nThe events over the next couple of weeks could be our final chance to stop these monstrous pipelines that threaten our climate\, water\, and most vulnerable communities. \nJoin us Tuesday\, November 14 at 5:00 pm for a candlelight vigil at the Governor’s Mansion. Show the Governor the moral light and urge him to reject these pipelines once and for all. \nWe’ll gather on Governor’s Street behind the mansion and make our way over together. DESCRIPTION:Join the People’s Pipeline Protest\, September 13-14\, 2017\, organized by Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN). \nTwo days of spirited\, creative protests at seven key Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) offices statewide to stop two fracked-gas pipelines. Help CCAN say NO at locations in Virginia Beach\, Roanoke\, Harrisonburg\, Richmond\, Abingdon\, Glen Allen\, or Woodbridge. \nWednesday\, September 13th – On day one\, just after Hurricane Irma is expected to blow through our land\, faith leaders and spiritual elders will hold prayer vigils on the public sidewalks outside the DEQ offices in Virginia Beach\, Roanoke\, Harrisonburg\, Richmond\, Abingdon\, Glen Allen\, or Woodbridge. We have interest from spiritual leaders of many faiths\, including Christian\, Muslim\, and indigenous leaders who will offer prayers and meditations for the Governor as he makes a decision of historic consequences very soon.
