SUMMARY:Cville Rising: Stop the Atlantic Coast Pipeline
DESCRIPTION:Cville Rising Event: January 14\, 2017 – Building the Resistance\, Stopping the Atlantic Coast Pipeline – Saturday January 14\, 2017\, 4:30-6:00 pm\, Charlottesville Friends Meeting House\, 1104 Forest St\, Charlottesville\, VA 22903.  Agenda will include speakers from local groups and directly impacted local counties. \nCville Rising says\, “The Atlantic Coast Pipeline is proposed to cut through the heart of our beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains here in Central Virginia\, not too far from C’ville. Join us\, to find out more and help us build a (peaceful) army to stop this thing…because nothing less is acceptable.  If Standing Rock has shown us one thing\, it’s that people power matters. We have to show up. Will you join us?  The biggest difference between the ACP and the DAPL\, is that construction hasn’t started yet. Dominion hope to start construction in the fall. We NEED to STOP them. We HAVE to STOP them…. \n“Because goodness knows\, we can’t depend on our politicians.  It’s down to us\, the people.  Join us to find out more and see how you can get involved.”

SUMMARY:Augusta County ACP Route Landowner Meeting
DESCRIPTION:If you are an Augusta County landowner with land in the footprint of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline or any access roads\, please join us this Thursday\, December 15\, 2016\, at 6:30 pm at the Augusta County Government Center. Come learn your rights as a landowner\, and how you can join together as a community to stand strong against the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. \nDespite what you might have heard\, this pipeline is not a done deal. You have rights as a landowner. We want to help you understand those rights. \nDominion does not have the right to an easement through your property UNLESS the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) grants it the power of eminent domain. That has not happened. Even if FERC ultimately grants Dominion the right of eminent domain (still far from certain)\, landowners have significant rights to protect their property and ensure that they are paid the true value of the highest and best use of their property. \nThere will be plenty of time for questions and answers. Part of the evening will be devoted to an exploration of how Augusta County landowners can organize and gather strength in numbers in a united effort to resist this pipeline. \nPlease note that this meeting is specifically focused on landowners. We appreciate the strong community involvement throughout our region\, and encourage non-landowners to focus their energy on other meetings that will continue to happen throughout the coming months. \nThis meeting is co-hosted by the Augusta County Alliance and Appalachian Mountain Advocates. Both are non-profit organizations which are focused on protecting this unique region. Neither group is seeking payment from anyone who attends this meeting.

SUMMARY:Buckingham County Board of Supervisors Meeting
DESCRIPTION:It is expected that the Buckingham County Planning Commission’s recommendation to the Buckingham County Board of Supervisors will be on the agenda at the December 12\, 2016\, Supervisors meeting. \nIf built\, the compressor station would have significant impacts on Buckingham\, which is known for its pristine environment and rural culture. The proposed site for this fracked gas propulsion station is in the middle of Union Hill\, a historic\, predominantly African American freedmen community. The compressor station would create a public safety hazard\, dramatically increase noise and air pollution\, lower property values\, and emit tons of greenhouse gases into an already overburdened atmosphere. \nAttend the meeting and let your presence help in the ongoing effort to prevent the Buckingham Board of Supervisors from approving the Atlantic Coast Pipeline compressor station. Buckingham residents need to know they have their neighbors’ support. \nContact lara@appvoices.org for more information.

SUMMARY:Scoping Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the scoping meetings is to provide an opportunity for the public to verbally comment on the project modifications. You may attend at any time during the meeting\, as the primary goal of a scoping meeting is for FERC to hear and document environmental concerns. There will not be a formal presentation by Commission staff; however\, FERC will be available to answer questions about the FERC environmental review process. Representatives of the ACP will also be present to answer questions about the project. Verbal comments will be recorded by a court reporter and transcripts will be placed into the docket for the project and made available for public viewing on FERC’s eLibrary system. \nYou should submit comments to FERC (see here for instructions) AND attend meetings to comment verbally. You should provide a written copy of your comments – those of us who have attended previous scoping meeting know how inaccurately verbal comments at those meetings were recorded by the court recorders at the sessions!

SUMMARY:Coal Ash Stories
DESCRIPTION:Over the past few months there has been fierce resistance across Virginia to Dominion’s coal ash disposal plans. Thousands called on the Department of Environmental Quality to revoke lax permits that allow Dominion to dump toxic wastewater into the James River\, with dozens of citizens risking arrest to protect our waters. But this fight is only beginning. In the coming weeks\, Dominion will apply for additional permits to leave its remaining coal ash waste in unlined pits that will leach heavy metals into our groundwater for years to come\, including at its Bremo Bluff Power Station south of Charlottesville. \nJoin CCAN\, the Virginia Student Environmental Coalition\, Appalachian Voices\, and more on Wednesday April 20\, 2016\, at the Jefferson Madison Central Library\, 201 E. Market St.\, Charlottesville\, for a film screening\, discussion\, and planning for next steps. \n“Coal Ash Stories” are four short films that paint a picture of what life looks like in communities threatened by toxic coal ash contamination across the country. Independent journalist Rhiannon Fionn will be at the screening as part of her nationwide tour to chronicle coal ash impacts for an upcoming documentary. Discussion following the film will focus on next steps to protect local drinking water and our treasured James River from Dominion’s toxic pollution. \nRSVP here for the screening of “Coal Ash Stories” next Wednesday in Charlottesville at the Jefferson-Madison Library at 7pm!

SUMMARY:Cut Carbon Now Rally
DESCRIPTION:Join us on April 2\, 2016 from 1-1:15 pm at the Free Speech Wall on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville for Cut Carbon Now\, a brief action with prominent speakers and a clear message! Sponsored by Appalachian Voices and 350.org\, this is a Day of Action in all parts of the Commonwealth\, calling on Governor McAuliffe to live up to his commitment to deliver to the people of Virginia a truly Clean Power Plan that cuts carbon pollution long-term and safeguards health and prosperity for generations to come. \nDominion Resources\, the Richmond-based parent company of Dominion Virginia Power\, is heavily invested in the natural gas sector\, primarily transmission and storage. That has led Dominion to lobby for an implementation plan that covers only existing power plants. \nExcluding new sources would leave the company free to build as many new natural gas-burning power plants in the state as it wants\, locking in years of increased carbon pollution\, and further boosting demand for fracked gas and pipeline capacity. Dominion’s plans call for more than 9\,500 megawatts of new gas generation in Virginia\, equivalent in carbon impact to building eight average-sized coal plants in the state. \nMcAuliffe can do what Dominion wants\, or he can do the right thing for the climate. He can’t do both. \nAlso\, please note: we are also asking that during the press event we avoid having No Pipeline signs out – we want to focus attention just on the program\, which is about McAuliffe’s role in charting a long-term course for cutting carbon pollution from power plants.

SUMMARY:"Community Advisory Group"
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Buckingham County\, Virginia invites you:\nThursday evening January 28th from 6 -8:30 PM – the last of the three meetings that Dominion scheduled for a small group of citizens in Buckingham. This is what Dominion is calling a “Community Advisory Group.” We are tasked with giving them “advice” on what we want from a 41\,000 HP plus massive industrial compressor station that will pollute our air\, compromise our health and change our rural way of life forever. But we don’t want a compressor station! We want our lives to be free from the toxic emissions\, the constant noise\, the 200 ft 24 hour lights and the ongoing pervasive threats to our safety. We want a future! Please plan to come and let Dominion know that we don’t want to help them plan this monstrosity. We don’t want to see it here at all!   The meeting will be held at the Agricultural Center building in Buckingham Courthouse Village on Route 60. It is located between the Art Center and the Buckingham County Health Department and Buckingham Administration buildings.
