DESCRIPTION:The strike will be from noon to 1pm at the Free Speech Wall downtown on Friday\, September 20\, 2019. \nYouth activists will strike to demand transformative action to address the global climate crisis and locally\, to stop the harmful Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley Pipelines and the compressor station in the historic African American community\, Union Hill. Rally speakers include Swami Dayananda of the Yogaville Ashram in Buckingham County and a representative from the Virginia Student Environmental Coalition at UVA; additional speakers will be announced soon. \nAfter a short rally\, Charlottesville youth will hold a die-in to draw attention to the devastating effect climate change is already having on vulnerable populations and the uncertain future of all youth. \nFollowing the die-in\, Charlottesville youth will march on the Downtown Mall. Virginia Student Environmental Coalition at UVA will be rallying on grounds in the morning and marching from UVA to join the youth rally. \nEveryone is welcome! Attendees are asked to bring a sign/or tombstone. If possible\, adults should wear black. \nBuilding on a historic surge of student protests and strikes for climate action\, the September 20 strike comes ahead of the United Nations Summit on Climate Change three days later\, when world leaders will convene in New York with the goal of deepening climate ambition. In over 150 countries\, people are already pledging to organize events on September 20 and during the Week of Action that follows. \nCharlottesville youth\, along with partner organizations Virginia Student Environmental Coalition at UVA\, Virginia Interfaith Power & Light\, the Green Grannies\, several other members of the Cville100 climate coalition\, and Charlottesville Democratic Socialists of America\, are leading the strike to demand stark climate action be taken by local\, national\, and global politicians. \n“As Union Hill faces the compressor station and pipeline\, we stand with them in protecting our region from harmful and unnecessary fossil fuel infrastructure\, and highlight the burden upon future generations which will be symbolized by a die-in during the rally\,” said strike organizer Gudrun Campbell. “Youth around the world have been striking for months and now we call on you\, the adults\, to join us.”

SUMMARY:Herring\, Stand with Appalachia: No Mountain Valley Pipeline
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, May 18\, 2019 at 1 PM – 3 PM \nLeesburg\, Virginia \nRally with us in Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring’s hometown to encourage him to rise above the incompetence\, corruption\, and climate consequences associated with fracked gas pipelines. Delegates Chris Hurst and Sam Rasoul will lead Southwest Virginians to NoVa to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with allies from across the Commonwealth and demand a stop work order for the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP). \nVirginians oppose the MVP\, the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP)\, and the Southside Connector because they are unnecessary\, unjust\, and destructive of our water\, ecosystems\, and climate. Virginians demand real action on climate change\, including major reductions in fossil fuel production and use. Virginians want a democracy that is not captured by corporate interests and a regulatory process that is honest\, transparent\, responsive to Virginians\, and protective of the most vulnerable among us. \nWe request that Mark Herring\n1) initiate a STOP WORK order for Mountain Valley Pipeline\,\n2) pursue his lawsuit against MVP to its fullest and refuse to settle the case\,\n3) and affirm the state’s authority to revoke a certification it granted. \nWe invite Herring to be a leader. Should he accept\, we invite him to be the star of the show on May 18. \nThis No Pipelines Rally for the Climate is co-sponsored by POWHR (Protect Our Water\, Heritage\, Rights)\, Indivisible NoVA West\, 350 Loudoun\, Great Falls Sierra Club\, Northern Virginia chapter of the Climate Reality Project\, Indivisible Northern Virginia\, Fauquier Indivisible\, Food and Water Watch\, Water is Life. Protect It.\, Protect Our Commonwealth. \nPlease register to let us know you’re coming and whether you’re interested in transportation or housing: https://forms.gle/BGz69QsFveYqYbqT9

SUMMARY:End Environmental Racism Now: March With Union Hill
DESCRIPTION:On May 17 and 18\, Virginians from all across the state will unite in common cause to oppose unjust and unneeded fracked-gas pipelines anywhere in the Commonwealth\, and to stand in solidarity for environmental justice and the climate. Join us\, along with featured speakers Rev. William Barber\, II\, and Karenna Gore. #noMVP #noACP @RevDrBarber \nMay 17\, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.\, Richmond \n“End Environmental Racism Now: March With Union Hill” \nJoin members of the Union Hill community and others as we rally with Rev. William Barber\, II in Richmond. We’ll march across the Robert E. Lee Bridge along the same route where 51 years ago\, almost to the day\, civil rights activists marched during Martin Luther King\, Jr.’s historic Poor People’s Campaign for economic justice. This year\, we’ll be marching for environmental justice in Union Hill\, a historic black community in Buckingham County targeted for a massive compressor station\, and to stop all fracked-gas infrastructure in the state.

SUMMARY:Stop the Pipelines DC!
DESCRIPTION:April 8\, 2019\, at 10 AM – April 12 at 5 PM\nNational Mall Washington DC\nWashington\, D.C.\, 20817 \nHosted by Stop the Pipelines \n**More Updates Coming Soon!** \nThe VOICES (Victory Over In-frack-structure\, Clean Energy inStead) coalition is planning an art installation\, lobby days and action in Washington DC April 8-12\, 2019. The centerpiece of our event will be a living sculpture on the National Mall\, right on Congress’ doorstep that will illustrate and enumerate the harms done to our communities by pipelines and related fossil fuel infrastructure. We’ll use the sculpture as a jumping off point and conversation starter to meet with key members of Congress and ask them to hold hearings and open an investigation into FERC (the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) and their many assaults on our rights and the rights of nature.\nYou can suggest stories to include in the sculpture here: https://goo.gl/forms/SZICBEtPQCQmAPRA3

SUMMARY:Tell Governor Northam - Restore the Air Board
DESCRIPTION:Governor Northam’s decision to terminate the terms of two members of the Air Pollution Control Board is shocking. Coming between the hearing and the vote on the pollution permit\, it obstructs any chance for the Union Hill community to have a fair hearing regarding Dominion’s Buckingham compressor station. \nFriday November 16\, 2018\, noon-1:00: Rally at noon behind the Governor’s Office\, 1111 E Broad St. – gather behind the office on Governor St between Broad St and Bank St. Tell Governor Northam to REVERSE HIS DECISION and reappoint Rebecca Rubin and Sam Bliecher to the Air Board immediately. Union Hill deserves their continued presence during the permit process and Virginians deserve better than a governor who would sell the health of people he is sworn to protect. \nHosted by at least 10 groups including Friends of Buckingham\, Friends of Nelson\, and Water Is Life. Protect It. \nIf you can’t be there (or even if you can!) flood Northam’s phone lines and inbox: \nGovernor’s office: 804-786-2211\nhttps://www.governor.virginia.gov/constituent-services/communicating-with-the-governors-office/

SUMMARY:Spruce Creek Camp/Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Spend the day or stay overnight at Spruce Creek Camp in Nelson County\, Virginia on land threatened by the Atlantic Coast Pipeline.\nThe biggest regional land-clearing project since the federal highway program of the 1960s is now underway in Virginia. In order to build the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley pipelines\, Dominion Energy and EQT are targeting vulnerable communities\, destroying precious ecosystems\, and threatening the livelihoods of Virginians far and wide. \nEnough is enough. Join us in Nelson County this October for a peaceful and family-friendly encampment on the property of the Averitt’s. The Atlantic Coast Pipeline is slated to go right through their property\, destroying beautiful Spruce Creek and cutting through the heart of Nelson County’s tourist attractions.  \n[su_note note_color=”#e5e6f7″]Mandatory sign up is required to schedule a time to visit for a day or camp for a few nights and learn about why this project is wrong for the people of Nelson\, and all of Virginia. The camp will be held the first 3 weekends in October\, from Friday mid-afternoon to Sunday late morning. \n[su_button url=”https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdfcf9s_Smc-gRzjPCdQVIDbOEYqHAO-gNzwmlAoWgUMaNcmw/viewform?usp=sf_link” target=”blank” size=”8″ wide=”no” center=”yes”]Click Here to Register For This Event[/su_button] \nSpace is limited. After you fill out the form\, we will follow up with all the details you need to know regarding location\, directions\, recommended items to bring and more[/su_note] \n\nSpruce Creek Camp is located at the base of Wintergreen.\nA first aid center with emergency phone service will be available at the camp\, as well as a full-time coordinator to greet you and provide assistance as needed.\nPlease bring your own camping equipment\, folding chair and flashlight.\nThere are wild animals in the area and for the safety of everyone\, we ask that you keep your food tied up in a tree or locked in your car.\nSharing food on site will be allowed. The Averitt’s will be sharing their food at the camp making gluten free and vegan dishes. There are also several restaurants in the area close by should you choose. \nYou will have the option to participate in community meals\, hike\, watch pertinent movies\, listen to featured speakers and participate in community forums to discuss ongoing resistance to the ACP in Nelson County. Off property hiking\, biking and suggested areas where the ACP would have an effect close by will be suggested for campers who are interested in venturing out on their own.\n\n\n*** You must sign up prior to arrival to join the camp.***\nNote: Cell service is limited for most providers except for Sprint. \nContact Deborah and or Sam for more information at sprucecreekgathering@gmail.com \n\nClick here to watch a presentation from the Congressional Briefing landowner (and camp-out sponsor) Richard Averitt\, participated in earlier this month sponsored by the Niskanen Center. It is 11 minutes long and deeply personal. It will surely shed light on the human side of the abuse of Eminent Domain and the entirely unnecessary Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley Pipelines. \n

SUMMARY:No Pipelines: Vigil for Archers Mill Grove
DESCRIPTION:What: No Pipelines: Vigil for Archers Mill Grove\nWhere: 2981 Archer’s Mill Rd\, Suffolk\, VA 23434\, United States\nWhen: Saturday\, October 6\, 3:00 – 6:00pm\nRSVP: Click HERE To RSVP on Facebook\, and invite all your friends! If you’re not on Facebook\, RSVP to climatealert@chesapeakeclimate.org\n \nThe Atlantic Coast Pipeline is slated to cut through a beautiful land called Archers Mill Grove\, a promising young sanctuary just outside of Suffolk. Virginia landowner Paulette Johnson has spent years nourishing this land from dry grass in 2007 to a beautiful\, biodiverse forest with an abundance of plant and animal life. And now\, large swaths of it could be destroyed by a pipeline we don’t need. \nJoin us on Saturday\, October 6 for a vigil and tour of the nature sanctuary threatened by the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. Take part in a moment of solidarity and learn how to help Paulette fight back.  \nPaulette and her husband Clay are a retired Navy family who have chosen to settle down and remain in Virginia — mostly because of the trees. Paulette\, originally from North Dakota\, chose Virginia as her home because she fell in love with trees\, so much so that she planted 3\,500 of them beside her house!  \nSeven years later\, she faces condemnation of her land in order to construct the Atlantic Coast Pipeline straight through the middle of Archers Grove\, clearing eight to ten rows of trees and putting Paulette’s house in the incineration zone of the pipeline. This would be done in the name of supposed “public good.” \nBut where is the good in a dangerous\, monstrous fracked-gas pipeline that would threaten the drinking water of millions of Virginians and could result in explosions just steps from Paulette’s home? When does a “public use” become eminent domain abuse? \nBut Paulette is not giving up. She has not accepted the easements for her property and is currently appealing her case to have a trial by jury.  \nNow\, it is critical that she receives statewide support so that all of our pipeline opponents know that we are all sticking together! Join us at Archers Mill Grove on Saturday\, October 6 at 3:00pm. \nThe public is invited to come and walk the path through the grove during this time and attend the vigil. The vigil will be held at 4:00 pm and there will be a special guest speaker.  \nWith the continuous support of people like you\, brave landowners like the Johnsons — and Bill and Lynn Limpert\, who held a protest camp on their property in Miracle Ridge — are empowered to keep fighting against the injustices wrought down by big utility corporations.

SUMMARY:Rally Against Pipelines
DESCRIPTION:September 26\, 2018\, 5:30-8:30m at Dominion Energy’s Charlottesville headquarterson Hydraulic Rd\, sponsored by Charlottesville’s Democratic  Socialists of America. \nWe stand in solidarity with Red\, Minor\, Nutty\, Lauren\, Nettle\, and all those who oppose the pipeline projects in West Virginia\, Virginia\, and North Carolina\, specifically the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley Pipelines. \nFracked gas pipeline projects are one of the purest forms of capitalist exploitation. For short-term financial gains\, energy companies will poison streams\, mar the land\, and decimate our local communities\, particularly communities of color and low-income neighborhoods. Dominion Energy and Duke Energy – and the politicians\, courts\, and police who enable them – have no interest in the well-being of our communities. They will use every tool available to push the pipelines through\, and to break those who dare oppose. \nWe recognize\, too\, that this struggle is a component of a larger effort to protect life-giving water from industrial pollution. We see in these pipelines echoes of the Dakota Access Pipeline and America’s long history of environmental racism\, and recognize the Native American water protectors on the front lines of that struggle. We stand in solidarity with the people of Union Hill against Dominion’s racist decision to build a hazardous compressor station for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline in the historic Black community of Union Hill in Buckingham County. The need for clean water touches all of us from Standing Rock to Flint\, and it is a right we must defend. \nWe demand that Governor Ralph Northam immediately direct Virginia’s Department of Environmental Quality to conduct a full stream-by-stream analysis of the environmental impact of the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley pipelines as a first step towards using Governor Northam’s existing authority under the Clean Water Act to immediately stop all pipeline construction. \nThe resistance now offered against the pipelines is but the continuance of the unending struggle against the hateful domination of corporate greed. We demand environmental justice in every sense: justice for the land on which we live\, and justice for the communities in the path of destruction. Therefore we stand in solidarity with all pipeline resisters\, and call on all people who know the weight of capitalism to join their voices to the cause. We can achieve a better world than the one Dominion and Duke present to us. We will reach it\, with or without them.

SUMMARY:People’s Caravan for Clean Air and Water
DESCRIPTION:People’s Caravan For Clean Air and Water’s NO MVP NO ACP Rally \nAt this event\, we want to send a message to Governor Northam\, DEQ\, and the SWCB to stop construction and do a stream by stream analysis. Northam needs to call for the SWCB to pull the permits and direct DEQ to stop work now! At their next meeting\, SWCB needs to pull the permits. \nWe want to tell Northam to reappoint Roberta Kellam to the State Water Control Board. \nWe want to highlight what the pipelines mean to the people of Union Hill who are facing the building of a compressor station 70 feet from their homes. The compressor station has a kill zone which Dominion cannot even define. We want to highlight the danger to the drinking of water of over 400\,000 people. \nWe want the need for the Southside Connector Project in Norfolk and Chesapeake\, to be reexamined. With gas demand being flat\, is it worth constructing this 24 inch\, fracked gas\, expansion pipeline through neighborhoods and within the potential incineration zones of several schools? This is unacceptable\, our children should be safe in their classrooms and families should be safe in their homes. \nWe have to continue to shine the light on how bad the Moutain Valley Pipeline and Atlantic Coast Pipelines for the environment\, for peoples\, health. \nAt the same time\, we also want to tell the world that we want Renewable Energy. \nWe’re doing this on a weekend hoping lots of people will STAND UP FIGHT BACK. This is everyone’s issue not just the people who are directly in the path of the pipelines. \nSo bring a sign and join us in sending a message that Virginia is not going to put up with this. \nHosted by Hampton Roads Green Party and 19 others

SUMMARY:Rally in Roanoke: Call for SWCB Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Citizen observers for the Mountain Valley Watch program have documented and reported as many as 20 erosion control violations to the Department of Environmental Quality since mid-April 2018. Yet DEQ has not issued any violation notices or warnings to the contractor or MVP LLC. The number and severity of problems should require an immediate investigation into the reported violations\, yet DEQ officials denied the existence of violations and problems during a recent court hearing in Roanoke. Virginia residents are justifiably concerned that DEQ is not fulfilling its responsibility to correct and enforce serious violations of state laws. \nA growing number of both individuals and groups are urging the State Water Control Board to immediately hold a meeting to determine the adequacy of the Army Corps’ Nationwide Permit 12 to protect the Blue Ridge region’s rivers\, streams\, and drinking water. The Board is not currently scheduled to meet until August 21 to consider the adequacy of the federal permit\, but in light of the ongoing problems and the daily\, direct harm to state waters from pipeline construction activities\, a decision on the permit cannot wait until late August. \nThere will be a rally with speakers to call for a prompt SWCB meeting on Monday\, June 18\, 2018 at 2:00 pm\, Wasena Park\, Roanoke\, VA (near Vic Thomas Greenway bridge by the Roanoke River). \nSpeakers include: \n\nDelegate Sam Rasoul\nRussell Chisholm\, Preserve Giles\nCynthia Munley Preserve Salem\nDr. Tina Smusz\, MD\, MPH\, health educator\nMary Beth Coffey\, landowner\nJason Shelton\, Mountain Valley Watch

SUMMARY:Festival of the [Monacan] River
DESCRIPTION:The Virginia River Healers have been invited to demonstrate at the Festival of the River in Richmond! Please join them on Saturday June 9\, 2018\, at 2:30pm. They will be using their presence to call attention to the threats of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline and Mountain Valley Pipeline. Show up and raise your voice for water justice! Show up and let Dominion and DEQ know how angry we all. DEQ and Dominion are sponsors of this 3 day festival for the river so let’s make a strong presence on Saturday. \nWhen: Saturday\, June 9th\, meet at 2:30pm\nWhere: Meet at the steps of the 7th street bridge on Browns Island. Richmond\, VA \nVirginia River Healers will have signs and banners ready to go and will be marching and demanding justice for our waters! This includes a call for Dominion Energy to stop work on the Atlantic Coast Pipeline and from horizontally drilling the so called James River for a fracked gas pipeline. At this very moment Dominion Energy and the Atlantic Coast Pipeline are preparing to horizontally drill the river\, a source of drinking water for over 3 million people. \nVirginia River Healers asks everyone in attendance to refer to the James River as the Monacan River and use this festival to also acknowledge the history of colonization and violence that has existed on this land long before the corporate violence of Dominion Energy and these pipelines. \nParking can be found at the corner of 5th and Tredegar St.

SUMMARY:Press Conference + Petition Delivery to VA Marine Resources Commission
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Newport News on Thursday\, December 21\, 2017\, for a press conference and petition delivery to the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC)\, to demand the agency hold public hearings to hear affected landowners’ and communities’ concerns on the proposed Mountain Valley and Atlantic Coast fracked gas pipeline projects. \nWe will deliver a petition requesting that VMRC plan public hearings on MVP and ACP that are located convenient to landowners and communities on the proposed pipeline routes — rather than at the VMRC’s HQ\, 2+ hours away in Newport News. \nAdd your name to the petition:\nhttps://boldalliance.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=24149 \nThe VMRC is responsible for issuing a state permit to both the MVP and ACP projects for specific water body crossings beneath the bed of streams and/or rivers with drainage areas greater than 5 square miles; these are considered to be State-owned subaqueous bottomlands of the Commonwealth (permit is a submerged Lands License under Virginia Administrative Code 4 VAC 20- 120-10 ET SEQ). \nThe VMRC is required to hold a public hearing as soon as there is a comment of protest to the projects (there has been). They typically hold public hearings in Newport News\, where their main offices are (2600 Washington Ave\, FL 3\, Newport News\, VA 23607). \nWe have a petition written to the head commissioner and the VMRC requesting that public hearings be held in proximity to the route of the proposed pipeline projects. (Sign the petition: https://boldalliance.webaction.org/p/dia/action4/common/public/?action_KEY=24149) \nWe\, the people\, have been sharing our concerns about the MVP and ACP projects for more than three years. We will continue to speak out and demand a just and fair process for the people of Virginia. We will be delivering our letter with this request on Thursday\, December 21\, 2017 and holding a brief Press Conference on site. \nPublic Comments can still be made to the VMRC; email them to Randy.Owen@mrc.virginia.gov\, specifying which project you are commenting on. \nThe link to VMRC permit tracking database is https://webapps.mrc.virginia.gov/public/habitat/ \nMVP Application #: 17-1609\nACP Application #: 15-1353\n(be sure to change the date range to 2015-2017)\nThe original application in under the “Application” tab.\nAny revisions\, protest letters\, letters of support\, etc. may be found under the “Additional Docs” tab.

SUMMARY:Candlelight Vigil Against the ACP & MVP Pipelines
DESCRIPTION:This past week\, the Virginia Water Control Board voted to approve the permit for the dangerous and unneeded Mountain Valley Pipeline for fracked gas. We strongly condemn this decision\, and the McAuliffe Administration’s support for the pipeline. \nNext week\, the Virginia Water Control Board will hold another round of hearings\, this time on the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. We have one last shot to make our voices heard and stand up against fracked-gas pipelines in Virginia. \nOur legal challenges could be the final chance to stop these monstrous pipelines that threaten our climate\, water\, and most vulnerable communities. But Governor McAuliffe has the authority to stop these pipelines. We need to make him see the light. \nJoin us Monday\, December 11th at 6:30 pm for a candlelight vigil at the Governor’s Mansion. Come after work\, come when you can\, invite your friends! Show the Governor the moral light and urge him to reject these pipelines once and for all. \nWe’ll gather on Governor’s Street behind the mansion and make our way over together. If you have trouble finding the meeting point or have any questions\, call Jamshid Bakhtiari at 757-386-8107.
