SUMMARY:Landowner Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Attention Landowners\n\nDo you have questions about eminent domain?\nHow are the compensation amounts for landowners determined?\nWhat is the legal process in eminent domain cases?\nWhat is the timing of events most likely to be?\nWhat can you do to fight for your land?\nWhat happens now?\n\nIf you have ever wondered about any of the above then please join Friends of Nelson\, and lawyers from Appalachian Mountain Advocates for an informative Landowner Meeting at the Rockfish Valley Community Center in Afton. \nThe guest speaker will be Chris Johns\, a prominent Texas attorney who has not only handled many jury trials on pipeline cases but also teaches eminent domain and private-property rights at the University of Texas School of Law. He has created a primer on eminent domain and will be present to talk about the process of eminent domain and answer your questions on the subject. \nLandowners who have property on the pipeline route or on an access road are invited and encouraged to attend. \nIf you have any questions about this meeting please do not hesitate to contact Randy Whiting at 434-529-7247. \n\nWe look forward to seeing you there.

SUMMARY:Resist the Pipelines with Appalachian Voices
DESCRIPTION:Virginians have an opportunity to defeat the two proposed fracked-gas pipelines- the Mountain Valley and Atlantic Coast pipelines – that would cut across our state\, through 900 miles through pristine forests\, farms\, and wetlands and cross (and potentially contaminate) thousands of headwater streams and rivers. Inter-state pipelines require approval at both the federal and state level. As Virginia residents\, we can engage in the state-level Clean Water Act certification process to discourage the VA Department of Environmental Quality from providing a permit to pipeline builders to destroy our Virginia waterways. Our window for voicing our concerns and recommendations at the state level is quickly closing. Appalachian Voices will present a brief overview of the proposed pipelines and detail direct actions we can take right now and in the coming month to make our opinions heard to the state. Come learn more about how we can defeat the pipeline on Wednesday July 26th at 6:30 pm at the Jefferson Room at the Central Library Charlottesville.

SUMMARY:Fighting the Pipeline: A Presentation by Appalachian Voices
DESCRIPTION:Appalachian Voices works at the nexus of America’s ongoing shift from dirty energy to solar\, wind and other 21st-century energy sources. We defend our region from mountaintop removal coal mining\, fracked-gas pipeline building\, and other harmful practices while promoting clean energy sources that generate local jobs and community wealth and that sustain Appalachia’s incomparable natural heritage. \nAppalachian Voices would like to invite you to learn more about how you can help defeat two proposed fracked-gas pipelines through civil engagement. The Mountain Valley and Atlantic Coast pipelines would cut through a combined 900 miles through pristine forests\, farms\, and wetlands and cross (and potentially contaminate) thousands of headwater streams and rivers.  \nAs Virginia residents\, we have an opportunity this summer to engage in the state-level Clean Water Act certification process to discourage the VA Department of Environmental Quality from providing a permit to pipeline builders to destroy our Virginia waterways. Join us in learning about and fighting the pipelines\, and together we can protect our local environment and communities.

SUMMARY:Walking The Line: C'ville Celebration & Next Steps
DESCRIPTION:Walking The Line: C’ville Celebration & Next Steps\n \nWe walked into the beating heart of Virginia\, along the roads\, across the rivers & streams\, through the fields & forests\, up and over the mountains… \nwe had a deeply impactful time\, while sowing seeds of connection & community to protect our land\, water and air\, to send out a message far and wide…that a 42″ fracked gas pipeline has no business here…nor anywhere. \nHowever\, our work isn’t done. The resistance is far from over. Let’s not lose any of the momentum or magic that we created out on…’the Line.’ \nCome on out\, as we gather to share our walk stories\, connect some more\, give thanks to everyone involved\, and lay down plans going forward to continue to stand strong in protection of that which we hold dear. \nFirefly is a wonderful family friendly restaurant\, full of games and good times\, great local food and drink! It’s also a welcoming venue for activism and community causes of all kinds! \nWalking the Line
