SUMMARY:People's Climate March
DESCRIPTION:Join the People’s Climate March on April 29\, 2017\, from 9-4 in Washington DC\, to stand up for our communities and climate. \nThroughout the first 100 days in office\, the People’s Climate Movement\, a project of dozens of organizations working together to solve the climate crisis\, is organizing a country-wide arc of action\, culminating on April 29th in Washington DC in a powerful mobilization to unite all of our movements. \nA steering committee of more than two dozen organizations is organizing the event. It is supported by the major national environmental groups and an array of social justice\, religious\, and labor groups\, ranging from the Hip Hop Caucus to the Franciscan Action Network to the BlueGreen Alliance. More than 100 groups have endorsed the march – to change everything\, we need everyone! \nRead more here about the movement. \nThe Virginia Sierra Club is organizing buses from Charlottesville (pickup 7:30am from Albemarle Square parking lot\, leaving DC by 5:30pm). Buy your tickets soon as they won’t last. For tickets go here\, and for more information\, contact Kenda Hanuman at kendahanuman@gmail.com or Dianna Abbot at diabbott@earthlink.net.

SUMMARY:Virginia Supreme Court Hearings
DESCRIPTION:Hazel Palmer\, an 83 year old widow\, will stand up against the Atlantic Coast Pipeline\, LLC before the Virginia Supreme Court. In 2004 the General Assembly enacted special legislation for interstate gas transmission companies granting them the special power to enter private property to study the land for interstate pipelines without the individual owner’s permission and without the companies paying just compensation. \nOn the same docket\, and scheduled after Mrs. Palmer’s case\, Buckingham County landowners will have their appealed right-to-enter cases heard. In April\, a Buckingham County judge granted ACP surveyors the right to enter private property without giving landowners notice of the specific date of entry\, despite the fact that the pipeline builder has not been granted the right to eminent domain. \nCome to show your support for Mrs. Palmer and for the Buckingham County landowners. \nThe Virginia Supreme Court is across 9th Street from the Capitol building. \nYou must enter and be seated before 9 am!

SUMMARY:DEIS Comment Writing Workshop - Dillwyn
DESCRIPTION:Want to help but don’t know what to say or how to submit your comments? We can help. We need your comments. The Draft Environmental Impact Statement was released a while ago and virtually erased Buckingham from the map. The site of the proposed 54\,000 Hp highly toxic compressor station\, the only one in Virginia\, and approximately 25 miles of highly explosive pipeline through farmland and highly historic districts is deemed by FERC to have “no significant impact”. We know better and we must let FERC know! It is important for us to assure that the FERC record is complete and everyone’s concerns are documented. We have until April 6th to get in our comments and we must act fast.  On March 25th we are having a comment writing session to help guide people in making comments. It will be from 11AM to 4 PM at South Central Counseling Group office (near the Drugstore in Dillwyn and across from the Buckingham Branch railroad office). \nIf you can help and have a laptop please plan to bring it along. More info: call Chad at 434 969 3229 or 434 806 6332

SUMMARY:We the People 2.0: Documentary Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Nelson will be hosting a showing of “We the People: 2.0” at Bold Rock Cidery in Nellysford on Sunday\, March 12th at 7:00 pm. \n“We the People 2.0” is the new documentary film about the loss of democracy in the United States\, told through the eyes of the people who have faced decades of toxic dumping\, drilling\, mining\, and pipeline infrastructure projects in their communities. The film demonstrates how we\, the people\, can turn this around and lay claim to our democracy. The film highlights the work of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) and Thomas Linsey\, who spoke at Rockfish Valley Community Center last November. \nTammy Belinski\, who is a Virginia attorney and sits on the CELDF Board of Directors\, will introduce the film and be available after for questions and answers. \nCome at 6:00 pm for food and refreshments at Nelson County’s premier cidery!

SUMMARY:FERC Public Hearing on ACP DEIS - Monterey
DESCRIPTION:FERC public hearing in Monterey on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the ACP.  This is one of a series of meetings in our area. \nFERC says\, “If you wish to provide verbal comments\, the Commission staff will hand out numbers in the order of your arrival. Number distribution will be discontinued at 8:00 p.m. in order to ensure all comments are received by closing time. Comments will be taken until 9:00 p.m.” \nThere will be a 3-minute time limit for commenters. Assuming 15 minutes for preliminaries at the start and with perhaps a minute between speakers\, that means a maximum of 60 speakers. At the FERC scoping hearing in Nelson County in March 2015\, only 78 of the 203 people who signed up were able to speak before that meeting ended at 10:45 pm. Since we know from our experience at the 2015 hearings in Nelson and elsewhere that Dominion will try to front-load the commenters with pipeline supporters (many from out of area)\, come early to sign up to speak! \nVerbal comments will be recorded by a FERC-provided court reporter\, and the transcripts of comments will be posted in the ACP docket on the publicly accessible FERC Web site. FERC-posted transcripts from earlier hearings were often incomplete and inaccurate; we recommend you provide the court reporter with a written version of your comments\, and that you also submit them directly to FERC following the hearing.

It is therefore crucially important that everyone who gives comments brings a paper copy to give to the stenographer and that everyone ALSO submits their comments to FERC so that there is an irrefutable paper trail!
