SUMMARY:We the People 2.0: Documentary Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Nelson will be hosting a showing of “We the People: 2.0” at Bold Rock Cidery in Nellysford on Sunday\, March 12th at 7:00 pm. \n“We the People 2.0” is the new documentary film about the loss of democracy in the United States\, told through the eyes of the people who have faced decades of toxic dumping\, drilling\, mining\, and pipeline infrastructure projects in their communities. The film demonstrates how we\, the people\, can turn this around and lay claim to our democracy. The film highlights the work of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) and Thomas Linsey\, who spoke at Rockfish Valley Community Center last November. \nTammy Belinski\, who is a Virginia attorney and sits on the CELDF Board of Directors\, will introduce the film and be available after for questions and answers. \nCome at 6:00 pm for food and refreshments at Nelson County’s premier cidery!

SUMMARY:FERC Public Hearing on ACP DEIS - Monterey
DESCRIPTION:FERC public hearing in Monterey on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the ACP.  This is one of a series of meetings in our area. \nFERC says\, “If you wish to provide verbal comments\, the Commission staff will hand out numbers in the order of your arrival. Number distribution will be discontinued at 8:00 p.m. in order to ensure all comments are received by closing time. Comments will be taken until 9:00 p.m.” \nThere will be a 3-minute time limit for commenters. Assuming 15 minutes for preliminaries at the start and with perhaps a minute between speakers\, that means a maximum of 60 speakers. At the FERC scoping hearing in Nelson County in March 2015\, only 78 of the 203 people who signed up were able to speak before that meeting ended at 10:45 pm. Since we know from our experience at the 2015 hearings in Nelson and elsewhere that Dominion will try to front-load the commenters with pipeline supporters (many from out of area)\, come early to sign up to speak! \nVerbal comments will be recorded by a FERC-provided court reporter\, and the transcripts of comments will be posted in the ACP docket on the publicly accessible FERC Web site. FERC-posted transcripts from earlier hearings were often incomplete and inaccurate; we recommend you provide the court reporter with a written version of your comments\, and that you also submit them directly to FERC following the hearing.

SUMMARY:Survey Suit Hearings\, Nelson Circuit Court
DESCRIPTION:On December 7\, 2016\, ACP filed in court a second amended petition asking for a declaratory judgement allowing them to enter private property in order to survey for the proposed pipeline. \nThe evidentiary hearing on the petition\, where both ACP and the owners will likely call witnesses\, including experts\, will be held in Nelson Circuit Court at 1:30 p.m. on Monday February 6\, 2017. According to the Circuit Court schedule\, this hearing will be for 39 different property owners being sued by Dominion; the property owners will be represented by several different attorneys. \nProtest at the Rally outside the courthouse at 12 noon\, prior to the hearing at 1:30pm. Bring signs emphasizing property rights concerns – we want to be sure the media recognizes the scale of Dominion’s bullying! We also need support at the Court hearing itself\, but please do not bring signs\, shirts or buttons into the court house.

SUMMARY:Community Mapping Project Launch and Fundraiser Dinner
DESCRIPTION:Friends of Buckingham (FoB) and Concern for the New Generation [CNG] are holding a launch event at Union Hill Baptist Church for the door-to-door project to create a “community map” of the people who would be most impacted by the Buckingham ACP compressor station\, if built. \n2 PM: CNG will hold a community dinner fund-raiser in the church dining room downstairs. Note: this is not potluck. \nLocal residents of the Union Hill/ Woods Corner proposed compressor station neighborhood will lead teams with volunteers from Charlottesville in this effort. Even though the Board of Supervisors approved a compressor station special use permit\, there are still lots of things we can do together to protect people living here in Buckingham from toxic air emissions and destruction of places of historic importance and pride. \nWe need every neighboring household’s help! \nPlease come on Saturday to join this effort and open your door to teams working on your street.
