SUMMARY:Augusta County ACP Route Landowner Meeting
DESCRIPTION:If you are an Augusta County landowner with land in the footprint of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline or any access roads\, please join us this Thursday\, December 15\, 2016\, at 6:30 pm at the Augusta County Government Center. Come learn your rights as a landowner\, and how you can join together as a community to stand strong against the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. \nDespite what you might have heard\, this pipeline is not a done deal. You have rights as a landowner. We want to help you understand those rights. \nDominion does not have the right to an easement through your property UNLESS the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) grants it the power of eminent domain. That has not happened. Even if FERC ultimately grants Dominion the right of eminent domain (still far from certain)\, landowners have significant rights to protect their property and ensure that they are paid the true value of the highest and best use of their property. \nThere will be plenty of time for questions and answers. Part of the evening will be devoted to an exploration of how Augusta County landowners can organize and gather strength in numbers in a united effort to resist this pipeline. \nPlease note that this meeting is specifically focused on landowners. We appreciate the strong community involvement throughout our region\, and encourage non-landowners to focus their energy on other meetings that will continue to happen throughout the coming months. \nThis meeting is co-hosted by the Augusta County Alliance and Appalachian Mountain Advocates. Both are non-profit organizations which are focused on protecting this unique region. Neither group is seeking payment from anyone who attends this meeting.

SUMMARY:Buckingham County Board of Supervisors Meeting
DESCRIPTION:It is expected that the Buckingham County Planning Commission’s recommendation to the Buckingham County Board of Supervisors will be on the agenda at the December 12\, 2016\, Supervisors meeting. \nIf built\, the compressor station would have significant impacts on Buckingham\, which is known for its pristine environment and rural culture. The proposed site for this fracked gas propulsion station is in the middle of Union Hill\, a historic\, predominantly African American freedmen community. The compressor station would create a public safety hazard\, dramatically increase noise and air pollution\, lower property values\, and emit tons of greenhouse gases into an already overburdened atmosphere. \nAttend the meeting and let your presence help in the ongoing effort to prevent the Buckingham Board of Supervisors from approving the Atlantic Coast Pipeline compressor station. Buckingham residents need to know they have their neighbors’ support. \nContact lara@appvoices.org for more information.

SUMMARY:Day of Solidarity with Standing Rock Sioux
DESCRIPTION:November 15\, 2016 is a National Day of Solidarity for opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline. Please join us on November 15\, 2016\, 4:30-7:30\, Free Speech Wall\, at the Pavilion end of the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville\, as we stand in solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux and other tribal nations in their battle to protect their land and communities from the unnecessary and unwanted onslaught of large diameter pipeline infrastructure. This battle is about clean water for their people. The Standing Rock Sioux are using their national sovereignty to protect their water. \nEnergy Transfer Partners has ignored the Obama Administration’s call to voluntarily halt construction and continues to desecrate sacred places. They have proven time and time again that they are more interested in money than the health and well being of the 17 million people who get their drinking water from the Missouri River. They have bulldozed over the burial grounds of Lakota and Dakota ancestors and have no regard for the sanctity of these places. \nPlease bring signs and Banners for display.

SUMMARY:Pipeline Summit
DESCRIPTION:The Allegheny-Blue Ridge Alliance (ABRA) and the POWHR Coalition will co-host a Pipeline Summit on Saturday\, November 12\, 2016\, in Natural Bridge\, VA. The 10 am to 4 pm meeting is designed to aid participants working to defeat the pipelines proposed across the Allegheny-Blue Ridge region with improved information\, messages and skills to carry on their efforts in 2017. \nThere is a $10 charge for lunch and beverages (a wide choice of sandwiches and salads will be available) to be paid upon your arrival. \nThe need for reforming property rights laws\, particularly eminent domain\, will be a major subject addressed. Participating in this important discussion will be: \n\nLarry Shapiro\, Associate Director for Program Development\, Rockefeller Family Fund\, New York City. He is also President of the Board of the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEFFA)\, the organization that released a study in April on the risks of pipeline expansions in the Appalachian region. Mr. Shapiro convened a national conference in June on “Pipelines and Eminent Domain.” He will be discussing a new initiative that seeks to reform the ability of pipeline companies to utilize eminent domain laws.\nRichard Averitt\, CEO at Digital ReLab and a Nelson County\, VA resident. Mr. Averitt has been significantly impacted by the proposed ACP. A 100-acre property he and his father\, Dick Averitt\, purchased in the Rockfish Valley portion of Nelson County\, VA to build a resort is in the path of the ACP\, thus preventing the resort development from proceeding. The resort would create 50 full-time and 50-75 part-time jobs\, significantly more permanent employment than the ACP would create in the entire Commonwealth of Virginia.\nKate Wofford\, Executive Director\, Shenandoah Valley Network\, an organization whose mission is to maintain healthy and productive rural landscapes and communities\, to protect and restore natural resources\, and to strengthen and sustain the region’s agricultural economy. Ms. Wofford will discuss the environmental easement issue in Virginia and also serve as the panel’s moderator.\n\nClick Here to Register

SUMMARY:Two Ongoing Exhibits: Masks\, Troubled Waters
DESCRIPTION:Masks\n Where: Rockfish Valley Community Center Auditorium\n When: On display through October 31\, 2016 \nThe exhibit displays masks created to represent local animals in the “Hands Across Our Land” event of August 18\, 2016\, protesting the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline. If built\, this pipeline would destroy many acres of habitat\, negatively impacting animals as well as humans. The mask-makers believe we should speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. The masks are to remind us of our non-human neighbors. They were used again on September 13\, 2016\, at the Lovingston Courthouse\, in an event that was part of a national action demonstrating solidarity with those resisting the Dakota Access Pipeline. We sympathize with and support the efforts of the Standing Rock Sioux to protect their water\, land\, and cultural and historical sites. \nTroubled Water: Voices from Bath\n Where: IX Art Park\, 963 2nd St SE\, Charlottesville\, VA 22902\n When: Photo Exhibit October 18-30\, 2016\, plus Video Premier Event Friday\, October 28\, 7:00-9:00 pm \nTroubled Water: Voices from Bath uses fine photography\, audio interviews and film to explore the personal and environmental issues of Dominion’s proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline in Bath County\, VA. Seeking to illuminate how the proposed Atlantic Coast natural gas pipeline affects those living closest to it\, professional photographer Lee Brauer\, a recent Bath County resident\, partnered with Barbara Adams\, a member of Interfaith Climate Justice in Richmond\, VA\, and Julian McBain and Sam Wright\, student environmental activists at Virginia Commonwealth University\, to create Troubled Water: Voices from Bath.
