SUMMARY:Blow the Whistle on Dominion
DESCRIPTION:WHAT: Blow the Whistle on Dominion!\nWHERE: 5th and Tredegar\, across from Brown’s Island in Richmond\nWHEN: Saturday\, May 21\, 6:30 PM. We’ll “blow the whistle” at 8 PM.\nWHO: Concerned climate activists like you! \nEvery May\, Dominion spends big bucks sponsoring Riverrock\, “the nation’s premier” outdoor sports and music festival on Brown’s Island\, along the James River in downtown Richmond. \nBut this year\, the irony is especially outrageous. As Dominion sponsors “Riverrock\,” it is simultaneously fighting for a license to keep polluting Virginia’s most beloved rivers — the James\, the Potomac\, and the Elizabeth — with toxic coal ash waste left behind from decades of burning dirty coal. \nWe all enjoy a good festival — but we can’t let Dominion\, Virginia’s #1 climate polluter\, get away with using fun events like Riverrock to cover up its dirty energy and dirty politics. \nSaturday\, May 21\, 2016\, on the biggest night of Riverrock\, we’ll don yellow t-shirts\, grab our whistles\, and line the sidewalks leading to Brown’s Island. And right before the headline act comes on stage\, we’ll “blow the whistle” on Dominion.  We’ll “blow the whistle” at 8 PM.

SUMMARY:Scoping Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the scoping meetings is to provide an opportunity for the public to verbally comment on the project modifications. You may attend at any time during the meeting\, as the primary goal of a scoping meeting is for FERC to hear and document environmental concerns. There will not be a formal presentation by Commission staff; however\, FERC will be available to answer questions about the FERC environmental review process. Representatives of the ACP will also be present to answer questions about the project. Verbal comments will be recorded by a court reporter and transcripts will be placed into the docket for the project and made available for public viewing on FERC’s eLibrary system. \nYou should submit comments to FERC (see here for instructions) AND attend meetings to comment verbally. You should provide a written copy of your comments – those of us who have attended previous scoping meeting know how inaccurately verbal comments at those meetings were recorded by the court recorders at the sessions!

SUMMARY:Dominion Resources Annual Shareholder Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Dominion Resources’ annual shareholder meeting will be held on Wednesday\, May 11th\, 2016\, in Columbia\, SC\, and a group of climate-concerned shareholders will be introducing five resolutions aimed at getting Dominion to clean up its act. Meanwhile\, dozens more activists will be rallying outside. \nWhether it’s Dominion’s push to build hundreds of miles of new fracked-gas pipeline\, its corner-cutting to dump toxic coal ash wastewater into our rivers\, or its attacks on rooftop solar\, it’s never been more clear: Dominion is the single biggest obstacle to setting a new direction for our energy future in Virginia. \nThat’s why a group of Dominion shareholders is pushing back. \nIf you own Dominion stock\, you can cast your vote for each resolution\, and even attend the meeting.  Click here to find out how you can help these activist shareholders. \nIf you don’t own Dominion stock\, join us for the rally outside!  RSVP to join us for the rally outside the meeting!

SUMMARY:Disobedience Movie and *Break Free* Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join the Piedmont Group of the Sierra Club\, Transition Charlottesville and 350 Central Virginia to watch great film and be inspired by a global wave of regular people everywhere resisting fossil fuels. \nIn a way\, this film is a follow-up to Disruption which played a big role in mobilizing people for the People’s Climate March in 2014 — so you know it will have an impact. As the climate crisis builds\, “Disobedience” challenges us to ask ourselves: “What kinds of action are called for? And what can I do?” \nAttend the Disobedience watch party and connect with local members of the movement and find out more about plans for participating in the “Keep it in the Ground” demonstration in DC.

SUMMARY:Press Event: Save These Historic Resources
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Rockfish Valley Foundation (RVF)\, 1368 Rockfish Valley Highway\, Nellysford\, VA\, on Tuesday May 3\, 2016 at 10 a.m. for an event intended to create state-wide awareness for the archaeology site of the Coleman Mills and Old Wintergreen Village. On the program will be Preservation Virginia\, Nelson County Historical Society\, Nelson Board of Supervisor Allen Hale and the Rockfish Valley Foundation. The two historic and cultural resources have been recognized by Governor McAuliffe as Virginia Treasures and by Preservation Virginia as endangered sites. They are the center of the South Rockfish Valley Historic District. The Atlantic Coast Pipeline will destroy them. RVF has worked hard over the last year to achieve recognition for these historic resources\, and wants to take public their efforts to defend the Rockfish Valley and the culture and history of this special place from the destructive impacts of the proposed pipeline. TV and other media will be present\, so this is a great time to have a big crowd to protest the damage the pipeline would do.

SUMMARY:Coal Ash Stories
DESCRIPTION:Over the past few months there has been fierce resistance across Virginia to Dominion’s coal ash disposal plans. Thousands called on the Department of Environmental Quality to revoke lax permits that allow Dominion to dump toxic wastewater into the James River\, with dozens of citizens risking arrest to protect our waters. But this fight is only beginning. In the coming weeks\, Dominion will apply for additional permits to leave its remaining coal ash waste in unlined pits that will leach heavy metals into our groundwater for years to come\, including at its Bremo Bluff Power Station south of Charlottesville. \nJoin CCAN\, the Virginia Student Environmental Coalition\, Appalachian Voices\, and more on Wednesday April 20\, 2016\, at the Jefferson Madison Central Library\, 201 E. Market St.\, Charlottesville\, for a film screening\, discussion\, and planning for next steps. \n“Coal Ash Stories” are four short films that paint a picture of what life looks like in communities threatened by toxic coal ash contamination across the country. Independent journalist Rhiannon Fionn will be at the screening as part of her nationwide tour to chronicle coal ash impacts for an upcoming documentary. Discussion following the film will focus on next steps to protect local drinking water and our treasured James River from Dominion’s toxic pollution. \nRSVP here for the screening of “Coal Ash Stories” next Wednesday in Charlottesville at the Jefferson-Madison Library at 7pm!
