SUMMARY:State of Virginia's Water Resources: Sharing a Finite Supply
DESCRIPTION:Annual meeting of the Virginia Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society.  Topics covered will include extreme weather events\, increasing variation in annual precipitation\, predicted water-demand increases\, and gaps in data for surface water and groundwater. \nRegister at http://ww2.bse.vt.edu/swcs/   Registration is $50\, and registration closes on October 21.  Contact Erin Ling at ejling@vt.edu\, or Karen Kline at kline@vt.edu. \nWhat a great chance to ask some GOOD questions to presenters like Scott Kudlas\, Director\, Office of Water Supply\, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality! Questions like: \n\nGiven our finite supply and projected increasing demand\, why does VA’s DEQ intend to give a free pass to the ACP to pollute so much water through erosion and sedimentation? No free pass? Oh\, great\, so you WILL ASK FOR AND MAKE PUBLIC site specific erosion and storm water control plans well in advance of project approval?\nIn light of our finite supply and projected increasing demand\, can you speak to the effect of the ACP using over 38 million gallons for DUST CONTROL?\nExtreme weather events? How does the VA DEQ intend to take into account the increasing frequency of extreme weather events in their granting of open trench waivers (15 miles long anyone?) and handling of other erosion and sedimentation concerns (landslides?) regarding the ACPs construction on VAs steep slopes?\nWhat evidence can you provide to reassure people in Nelson County that removing over 3 million gallons of water from local rivers for hydrostatic testing won’t negatively impact aquatic life or drinking water?

SUMMARY:Prayers Not Pipelines
DESCRIPTION:Bring Friends and family and join us for this community organized Prayers Not Pipelines event on Sunday\, October 25th\, 10-3PM at the Rockfish Valley Foundation/ Spruce Creek Gallery. \nImagine a “wall” of white gauzy fabric wrapped around the trees so that you can see through to the trees but blocked enough to imagine their loss. This wall will be on both sides of RT 151 and will be the length of the path of the proposed pipeline route\, 125 feet. In front of that white wall\, we will stand hand in hand with our no pipeline shirts. We will line both sides of Rt 151.  As we filter in and out to take turns\, we will pass out info and hand out flyers to residents and visitors. While the community is waiting their turn to be a part of the human chain along Rt 151\, participants can create their own prayer flag. There will be white squares of cloth available with markers and people can make their own statement\, intention\, artwork or prayer. The flags will be collected and sewed together on a line to create a giant prayer flag that will be posted along the road where the proposed pipeline would go. The goal of the event is to send out positive messages to the community and the forest: blessings\, protection and prayers going out to the world that this is a protected and sacred place. \n\nPlease sign up to stand along Rt 151 in opposition to the ACP by going to this link: http://doodle.com/poll/a38kt85m8qc375ni

SUMMARY:Intervenors Workshop\, 2nd Chance
DESCRIPTION:If you haven’t signed up to be an intervenor\, we’re holding another workshop to help you do so.  Stop by any time between 1 and 5.  What is an “intervenor?” According to FERC’s Frequently Asked Questions\, “An intervenor is an official party to a proceeding and enjoys distinct advantages over those who only file comments. Intervenors have the right to: participate in hearings before FERC’s administrative law judges; file briefs; file for rehearing of a Commission decision; have legal standing in a Court of Appeals if they challenge the Commission’s final decision.” FERC notes\, “As a general rule\, you should intervene when you may be materially affected by FERC’s decision on a specific case\, project or policy. Intervention gives you the right to challenge FERC’s decisions in Court. Non-intervenors can not take the FERC to court.” Those materially affected include all landowners on the route\, and others with strong interests\, such as neighbors\, and businesses that fear direct impacts. The goal of this workshop is to assist people in registering as intervenors. More detailed FERC information on intervention is here.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a rally that carries forward Central Virginia’s engagement in the fight for climate protection and clean energy solutions! As area residents organize to resist fracked gas transmission projects\, the time is now to join the call for solar\, wind\, and efficiency and say Stop the Pipelines! \nLooking ahead to Paris and beyond\, we will highlight the initiatives that are harnessing carbon-free power and saving wasted energy in our area\, and will raise the voices of local leaders calling for state\, federal\, and global climate action.

SUMMARY:Buckingham County Hearing on ACP Motion for Entry
DESCRIPTION:A hearing in Buckingham County Circuit Court before Judge Donald Blessing has been scheduled on ACP’s motions for entry of an order granting it entry upon private properties to survey\, inspect and REMOVE “items of interest” (to ACP) without owners’ consent (or even knowledge as to exact times and identity of property removed). At the hearing\, lawyer Chuck Loller will be giving oral arguments on motions to dismiss these lawsuits against his Buckingham clients because VC 56-49.01 violates Virginia’s recently amended Constitution and because ACP presently has no power of eminent domain.  Come out to show support for our neighbors in this first case of Dominion/ACP vs landowners.

SUMMARY:Friends of Nelson Public Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, June 10\, 2015\, 7:00 p.m.  Friends of Nelson Public Meeting at Rockfish Valley Community Center.  Many thanks to Donny Williams\, organizer with We Are Cove Point and Calvert Citizens for a Healthy Community-CCHC\, who spoke about the perils that have befallen Lusby\, Maryland as Dominion has aggressively and ruthlessly moved in to expand and convert Cove Point into the largest exporter of fracked natural gas on the East Coast. He gave us a great overview of Dominion’s Cove Point LNG export terminal – how it was born and its current status. His presentation offered us direct experience of how Dominion and the regulatory process treats small towns and the worries of their pesky populations.  Dominion has been intentionally vague about all of these gas infrastructure projects\, but as we learn more and get to know folks from groups outside of the ACP route\, it becomes clear that all of these projects are scarily intertwined. Our support of Cove Point\, Myersville\, and West Virginia are very important!
